NEW online film project! Speak For Yourself: Rural Women's Voices
Following on from our successful HERitage project in which we showcased an art exhibition and our very own play “Sticky Toffee Pudding and Butterscotch Sauce” , Women’s Workshop would like to announce our new online video-making project highlighting & identifying women’s issues.
Our aim is to highlight women's stories and celebrate rural women’s voices by creating a platform for women across Northumberland to have their say and make a short film about an issue that is important to them.
Throughout the Summer, Women’s Workshop will be working with women to develop skills in film, create an (online) space and empower women in Northumberland to ‘Speak For Yourself’.
We are aware that women in rural areas regularly feel marginalised as services are often targeted to a more urban population and do not always address their needs. We are aiming to work with a group of women to identify and highlight their issues and concerns so that we can present their final pieces to policy makers to call for real change.
Women’s Workshop will also host a virtual 'Speak For Yourself' film festival at the end of August, showcasing the films created by the group.
We are planning two sessions 17th July, 24th July at 10.30am with JoJo Kirtley on zoom to discuss content, ideas and plan our videos. All women welcome from all backgrounds -as long as you live in Northumberland!
As well as a special online webinar on 31st July at 4pm delivered by a film expert. More details will follow about this event.
