SUMMARY:Focus on Violence against Women - Visit from the new ISVA for rural areas Carole Yeoh and Info on ‘Ask Me’
DESCRIPTION:Carole\, who is employed by Rape Crisis Tyne & Wear and Northumberland (RCTN) as the Independent Sexual Violence Adviser for rural areas\, will be joining us to explain her role. She is keen to work closely with the Women’s Workshop and is exploring her service being hosted from our base at the Dovecote Centre on a once a month basis\, to provide an opportunity for networking\, informal drop-in\, appointments etc. Come along to find out more and share your views. \nWe will also be taking a first look at the Ask Me project\, provising a short training course aimed at giving women the tools to support other women facing violence and abuse. \nThis session will also give us the opportunity to let you know about further plans we have to mark the 16 days of activism against Violence against Women\, starting with a special event at the Dovecote Centre on 29th November with Workie Ticket Theatre Company. \nTo attend in person or online at Monday’s session please sign up at \nhttps://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/IntheCyclesOct21 \n

SUMMARY:Working with Adult Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse
DESCRIPTION:The women that Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland works with say that what they find most helpful is understanding\, acceptance\, support and someone to listen to them in a non-judgmental environment. Many workers tell us that they want to provide this but often feel out of their depth or concerned that they may say the wrong thing when receiving a disclosure about sexual abuse.\nThis workshop aims to increase supporters’ confidence\, awareness\, knowledge and skills relating to sexual violence and to explore the issues that may affect workers when receiving disclosures. \nLearning Outcomes: \nt\nExplore definitions of and our own reactions to childhood sexual abuse \nt\nDevelop an understanding of the long and short-term effects of childhood sexual abuse \nt\nExplore society’s attitudes to childhood sexual abuse and the impact they have on survivors \nt\nLook at ways of supporting survivors of childhood sexual abuse \nt\nDevelop confidence and skills when dealing with disclosures \nt\nConsider practice issues and the importance of self-care when working with childhood sexual abuse
