Take Notice – Being Mindful at Home
Good morning everyone!
Today’s theme is “Take Notice”
Take notice (or being mindful) is all about paying attention to the present moment. This is a hard pathway to follow when we are all so confused and upset but practicing mindfulness can help with our mental wellbeing and keep us focussed on the positives.
How can we do this?
Evidence proves that being aware of what is taking place in the present directly enhances your well-being, can improve your priorities and allows you to make positive choices based on your own values and motivations.
Remind yourself to ‘take notice’ at least once a week to strengthen your own self-awareness. Set some time aside the do this so it becomes part of your weekly routine.
Take some time to enjoy the ‘moment’ and the environment around you even if it is your own back garden or your living room! Play your favourite song!
(We know this is hard when we can’t leave the house or when we have children following us around the house! So they’re is no pressure at all to try out some of these activities.)
Top Tips!
· Have a ‘clear the clutter’ day. It will make you feel better!
· Have some time-out from social media. Stay away from the negative storylines for a day.
· Read a good book. Any suggestions? Whya not try reading a play?
· Take a long soak in the bath with bubbles and concentrate on your breathing.
· Take notice of how your friends are feeling or acting-get in touch and stay connected!
· Make a ‘mindfulness’ playlist and listen to your favourite ‘chill-out’ songs. Music is a great way to be mindful.
· Look through old photos and really take notice and remember the happy memories.
· Download the Headspace app. It’s a great introduction to Mindfulness. More on this next week!
· Create a piece of art! Adult colouring in books are an amazing way to be mindful too.
· Learn to meditate. A quick & easy meditation activity is to close your eyes, get comfortable & count to 60 seconds.
· Be aware of you own body and do a ‘body scan’. Lie flat on your bed and think about each part of your body, your aches, how your clothes feel against your skin, the temperature of the room etc. From your head to your toes; scan your body.
